The progress in RFID technology in the past few years

Like the new technology around now, RFID technology has been making steady improving as a niche technology since when it was launched. The development of RFID technology has grown within a few years; it gave birth of the idea of iBeacon technology and that of Eddystone beacon technology. This innovation has made some products and services.

There are two groups of this expanded products and services

RFID tags: there are more differences in RFID tags, to fit in any environment, there will be variation in its performance level, and also they have a different price level.

RFID readers:  RFID readers makes it more advance to read data and process them. The outstanding intelligence of RFID readers makes cost minimal when integrating the information from the RFID tags

There two types of RFID tags

Passive RFID tags: it does not send the transmission, but it backscatters energy from a RFID reader. They are affordable, but its performance and capabilities are small. They can only cover a short distance about 10-30 feet and won’t work in an environment that is conducive for radio frequency, conditions like metals and liquid surfaces

Active RFID tags: they are powered by batteries, or by beacon technology which transmits information to a reader. Their range excellence is better compared to the passive tags, but they cost more, over ten times than passive tags. They require customary integration,

Back in November 2010, a new set of RDIF technology was launched. This group of the RFID technology gives a new phase of visibility, enabling new use in their application. This new standardized group of RFID is also called as Battery Assisted Passive (BAP) RFID or class 3 RFID.  Battery Assisted Passive RFID joins all the characteristics of both active and passive RFID.

Inclusively the Battery Assisted Passive RFID can transmit on metal surfaces; it solved the problem that the usual Radio frequency identification face to be read on the metal surface.

This has expanded the scope of RFID in tracking and industrial uses. It can track data on servers and computers in ICT centers and industrial application like quality control, manufacturing, maintenance of oil and gas pipeline. The main function RFID serve in the metallic object is to track weapons and medicinal quality control. The new BAP standard enables long read range over 100 meters with reliable performance.
